The mindset around conservation has changed little over the last century. Led by a belief in the inherent value of our lands, water, air, and wildlife, groups chase public and philanthropic funds to conserve them. But despite good intentions, few are able to design solutions that effectively protect these resources long term. Without the right strategy and incentives, most projects end after attention and funding move on. That leads to wasted money, lost opportunities, and broken promises to the community even as the need for ecosystem protection grows more urgent.

NetEarth takes a different approach.

Instead of chasing limited, unreliable funding for nature, we make conservation a business opportunity. With our partners’ strategy and bottom line as the engine, we apply startup thinking, business disciplines and scientific rigor to craft solutions that satisfy business and biodiversity needs in tandem.

In this way, protecting nature becomes a long-term business priority that unites shareholders, landowners, and local communities in the impact.

Our Founder’s Story

We keep asking how to fund conservation. I ask who’s buying—and why.

I began my career as a wildlife veterinarian working with chimpanzees in the Congo during a civil war. What quickly became clear: conservation doesn’t work unless it works for people. The real constraints weren’t ecological—they were economic, institutional, and strategic.

I watched well-meaning projects fail because they were designed for donors, not for the systems they operated in. That’s when I started asking a different question—the one that still drives my work today: who’s buying, and why?

That insight launched a 20-year journey at the intersection of business, finance, and conservation. From managing private equity funds to co-developing the first biodiversity offset bank outside the U.S., I’ve helped pioneer what’s now called conservation finance. I’ve led investments with the IFC, advised governments, and built ventures from scratch.

But I founded NetEarth because the field still needs something it’s missing: a place where bold environmental solutions are built like startups and designed to last.

NetEarth is that place. A studio for turning environmental problems into investable ventures. A lab for prototyping models that work for business, nature, and communities. A home for the kind of hands-on, systems-driven experimentation this moment demands.
